By Michael J Bailey, 4RO Breakfast
A few years ago I was recruited into the broadcasting world by Mr. Guglielmo Marconi as a radio test dummy and I have been having fun ever since.
A little later, a friend of mine, Alan Baker, said that MjB was with me. I’m about to realize my dreams of being a radio host.
A crowd of 300 wannabes showed up at Color Radio 4IP and after many rounds I was the clown who got the chance to entertain and what a ride it was.
I had the chance to learn the ropes of what needs to be done, from commercial production tasks to compiling news, voiceovers and sales.
My first On Air ride was at 4LM Mount Isa, then it was just an adventure in Queensland, New Zealand and America, but nothing beats home.
The changes I’ve seen have been amazing, the technology has been mind blowing from playing vinyl records to CDs to music files that you never touch. They just appear on your logs, just press the button and it’s just magic.
Ninety years ago, there was only one commercial radio station, 4RO, and the ABC, our membership numbered about 30 media legends. The format was First in News First in Serials First in Variety First in Music First in Drama and First in Sport and our live and local broadcast times were Monday through Saturday 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. and Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Now we operate 24/7
I have to say I’m proud to be part of this fantastic media team that is part of Rockhampton’s legacy.
