As British Commonwealth athletes aim for gold in Birmingham at the XXII Commonwealth Games, The Countdown to New Zealand’s Retro Weekly Top 40 hits UK audiences via an online radio station: TV GOLD RADIO on www.tvgolduk.com. The show will play on Sunday afternoons from 4pm UK local time (3am Monday New Zealand time). The Countdown to New Zealand’s Retro Weekly Top 40 is a weekly New Zealand time travel trip to the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s. Kapiti Coast-based broadcaster Rob Walker hosts the show which is a countdown to the top 40 songs such as ‘they were on the official New Zealand singles charts for the corresponding weekend. It also includes a preview of some tracks from some great albums that were on the Official New Zealand Albums Charts for the same year and weekend.
The show is 3-4 hours long and packed with audio from the artists, as well as an overview of New Zealand news and events from this weekend and this year, and as this is our countdown, it of course contains good New Zealand music. . So it’s OUR CHARTS – OUR MUSIC! It also contains some of the greatest hits from Australian artists and bands, as well as the greatest hits from the US and UK. The Countdown to New Zealand’s Retro Weekly Top 40 began syndication nationwide in May 2018, on various regional and local commercial radio stations, as well as some LPFM stations, and is now heard on 39 major 100% New Zealand local and independent radio stations at across the country – making it the nation’s most syndicated locally produced weekly music radio show – with a potential audience of around 2 million listeners each weekend. Some radio stations broadcast the program 2 or 3 times a week with reruns in the middle of the week. And now it’s also heard on FOUR stations overseas, bringing the total number of stations playing the countdown to over 40!
