Ganesh Nana says the winter flu season on top of the Covid pandemic is putting many businesses under pressure, but it also exposes the systemic problem that New Zealand has not invested enough in skills training in the past.

Problems don’t go away quickly.

“Good organizations and forward-looking Maori businesses need to plan ahead. We need to think about how much staff we have on board and can we have buffers or what kind of arrangements can we put in place to ensure that when staff are sick or ill the burden is shared by others staff members one way or another,” Dr. Nana said.
