Danville Il – “The Community Connection,” a thirty-minute daily talk show will begin airing at 1490 WDAN AM, Monday, May 16and at 7:30 a.m. The show will be hosted by Laura Williams, who also produced the DACC Radio Show for many years on Danville Radio Station.

“The Community Connection” will air in the same timeslot as the old program; “Newsmakers” which was hosted by Linda Bolton for 12 years. Linda passed away last month, as her program was unique to her own passions and background, the station felt it was appropriate to turn to a slightly different focus.

“As a radio journalist, Linda has done a tremendous job focusing on the individuals who create news and lead our communities,” said Mike Shamus, CEO of Neuhoff Media-Danville. “Laura’s program will focus more broadly on people, programs and organizations that uniquely impact Vermilion County,” Shamus added. “We will never replace Linda, but to honor her with our commitment to service, we will continue a legacy established over 80 years ago for WDAN listeners.

“The Community Connection” has its own history on Danville radio. WDAN featured a program of the same name when the late Coach Frank Luzenske produced a morning talk on WDAN in the late 90s and early 2000s. “Coach loved talking to kids, adults and sharing their stories,” said commented Laura Williams. “When I was asked to host a daily radio show, I thought that was the perfect name for what we will be doing too,” added Williams.

The Community Connection and Newsmakers will have their program archives available via podcast on Vermilion County First.com The Newsmakers podcast was among the most downloaded audio programs in all of Neuhoff Media’s digital features company-wide.
