The Maori Development Minister said it was a great effort from the Māori All Blacks in Wellington yesterday, despite losing to Ireland 24-30.

It means the visitors have drawn the two-game series, having been beaten 32-17 at Hamilton.

Mr Jackson presented shirts to the Maori team before the game and shared some of the stories of Maori rugby.

He says New Zealand rugby must continue to treat Maori rugby seriously.

“We need more than one or two games because it’s an expression of our national identity, this Maori rugby team. When you have young guys now, they speak Maori, they do good haka, they represent us so well and it was a great moment for me as Maori Development Minister,” Mr Jackson said.

He says even a midweek touring team is tough to beat on tour, and Maori came into the game without eight All Blacks.
