Sheldon, Iowa – If you thought you’d heard changes to KIWA over the past few months, you’d be right. Some people have new roles, and some people are entirely new to the station.
The changes began with former general manager Justin Hellinga deciding to pursue other opportunities on July 1. KIWA’s Tom Traughber has held this position and no longer regularly assists in the news department. Hellinga still does play-by-play sports with his brother Jon.
KIWA athletic director Larry “LA” Ahrens says that while you still hear him on the air a lot, he’s semi-retired.
He says he didn’t want to stop cold turkey.
Ahrens says he works about half as much and his Saturdays off now allow him to spend more time with his grandkids and catch a Vikings game and maybe some Twins games.
Another change at KIWA was the addition of Mark McHugh. He tells us about his journey.
McHugh gives us an idea of what he is doing at the station.
And in late July, McHugh’s wife, Tabitha, joined the KIWA staff. She tells us what she does and a bit about her background.
Through all of these changes, we at KIWA are proud to continue to be Northwest Iowa’s top choice for information and entertainment.
